Kerrobert Recreation News – August 25/2021

This week our Pool has been winding down as numbers drop when the temperature does.  We will be closing Thursday August 26 at 5:00.  Thank you to everyone involved for a great season!

Special thanks goes out to Alliance Pipeline Ltd – Community Investment, for their $1250 donation that was put towards the Kerrobert Swimming Pool Safety Initiatives including increased staff inservices, recognizable guard gear, and lifesaving equipment including a spine board and lifejackets.

The Recreation Board met in August and had a number of interesting items on the agenda to review.  It was decided that the rink will open later than usual but it was for a number of reasons.  The Rage will not be housing a team this year which is unfortunate news for our community but without their ice rentals of practises and opening camp it is difficult to justify running the plant a month early.  As well, we are leaving extra time for the Zamboni to arrive as the ice can’t be put in until the boards are in place for the year.  Therefore, the plant will be started on Sept. 15 with an opening date of Oct. 1.  All teams have been notified!

Each year all organizations using the rink have the option to pay a higher ice fee per hour and opt out of working booth shifts or pay a lower fee and work booth shifts (called the fundraiser).  This year all organizations have opted out (Tigers, AA, Kerrobert Minor Hockey) so we will be looking to lease the booth this year to an individual or organization.  Please call the Recreation Office at 834-2344 if you are looking for more information!

It was determined that the hourly ice rate will not increase this year.  This was decided as we know all teams and organizations will be struggling following Covid.   Therefore ice rates are as follows :

Ice Rental 2021
Minor teams & Minor organizations – Ice 95/hr with fundraising
Minor teams & Minor organizations – Ice 120/hr
Minor teams & Minor organizations – Tournament 500/day to 6:00pm
Senior/Junior/Adult teams & organizations – Ice 135/hr with fundraising
Senior/Junior/Adult teams & organizations – Ice 160/hr
Senior/Junior/Adult teams & organizations – Tournament 700/day to 6:00pm
All – prior to 9:00a.m. & unclean ice 68/hr
Off Season Rates or Lobby Rentals
Arena Lobby 330/day
Arena Lobby & kitchen (April to Sept) 430/day
Local Full Facility 430/day
Non-local Full Facility 580/day
Arena Floor surface 50/day
Arena Bathrooms only (new in 2018) 90/day

We are currently working with Kerrobert Minor Hockey and AA teams to set up the 2021-2022 hockey schedule and are looking to see the interest in someone offering a Learn to Skate, Canskate or Figure Skate program to fill the Tuesday from 4:00- 5:15 ice slot.  If you would be interested, please contact the Rec Office.

Communities in Bloom received 23 nominations this year for the Yard Stake and Hope is Growing program.  It is a testament to how many people put great effort into their yards this year!  Thank you to everyone who works hard to keep our community beautiful, including the Communities in Bloom and the Chamber of Commerce organizations.  Winners this season for the CIB program are as follows :
Most Deserving Yard – Brad and Tracey Heidt
Hope is Growing Yard – Carol Grosscopf
Most Beautiful Business – Pioneer Haven

The Recreation Office will be closed August 27 to Sept. 6 as I will be away on holidays.  Please don’t hesitate to call the Town office at 834-2361 and they will be able to help you.

Again, we saw a Covid testing clinic in Kerrobert which can often indicate an increase of cases in our area.  With kids heading back to school it’s a very important time to think about community safety.  Please do what you can to stay well and stay educated from professionals who are dedicated to keeping the public safe.  Reach out to professionals if you need help with your mental health.  Stay well friends and be kind to others 😊
