Recreation Update for the Chronicle – from Kerrobert
Kerrobert Swimming Pool
Much like all most of 2020 and 2021, the opening of the Kerrobert pool in June of 2021 was a challenge due to Covid. Thankfully the west central pools in our area are all willing to work together and with their collaboration and assistance, we were able to come up with a strong set of guidelines to help us open. To date we have had 1951 swimmers make use of our pools.
Our guards are very excited to be offering private and group lessons this year. We had such positive feedback from the parents who enrolled their kids in private lessons. The one on one teaching provided great instruction and the opportunity for our instructors to connect with kids from our community and surrounding area. We currently have 140 kids registered in lessons. We ran very little programming in June due to Covid but we are bringing back our Junior Guard program which enables kids ages 10+ to try out lifeguarding; we are opening up more Aquasize times; and we are once again offering our Park Program. The Park Program is funded by the Community Initiative Fund and runs Tuesday to Thursday from 1:30 – 3:00. Two of our swim instructors/lifeguards provides programming to children ages 5 – 12 and works to connect them with our community. It will begin on July 8 with a trip to the Library and run to August 20.
With Covid restrictions lifting we are cautiously lifting them at the pool as well. We feel there were some good lessons for us to learn and although we will no longer be wearing masks we will continue with a few of the guidelines : increased cleaning measures will be continued especially in high touch areas; reduced use of change rooms will still be encouraged especially for kids who are not accompanied by guardians; and we will continue to limit toy use except when there a limited people in the pool.
With the water and sewer line replacement happening on the pool street sometime in July we are considering how to ensure a safe entrance. It is likely that we will change the entrance for the time that heavy machinery will be on that street. Please stay informed so that we can ensure the safety of our patrons.
